Taste of Honey

From the beginning

our dark was like
a hive of bees, murmurings,
the beating of wings.
We lay at the cross-roads
of night, dreams making
a bee-line for morning.

From the beginning

our joy was a talisman
against the backlash
of time. We tasted
honey on our lips, gossiped,
giggled, whispered, even
our silences were sweet.

From the beginning

we knew the end
was close, but veiled
the truth with I love you’s.
And when it came, with
its sudden sunshine sting,
we were still candy-kissing.
