100 DAFFODILS

First published in Poetry Space Spring Showcase in March 2022

They open
golden mouths,
lick their yellow lips
and purse them
into kisses
for Valentine's Day.

They glow
lighting up
the morning kitchen,
spill promises on
the breakfast table
with marmalade & toast.

100 daffodils
(or more perhaps?)
such over-the-topness,
such glory
all saying these three
well-worn words.

'I love you.' Me too.
