SUCH LUCK

First published in March 2022

You moan
about growing old,
about losing
your sight.

You moan
about a fall - upstairs
not down,
about a gashed knee.

You moan
about being unable
to drive, now your man
is behind the wheel.

You moan
until you turn on
the tv news, watch
pictures from Ukraine

and you find
you have nothing,
not one thing
to moan about.

Your life
is not packed in
a wheelie suitcase,
no bread, no bed.

You're warm
well-fed with
wine to drink,
a bed to sleep in,

you're incredibly lucky.
