AN ORDINARY DAY?

To the mind's eye
it's just another day,
nothing special, grey,
grey as yesterday.

The mind's eye
doesn't do dates,
lives from day to day,
organising times.

Soon it might tire
of ticking off minutes,
masterminding our days,
this business of growing old.

But not yet, not yet -
we've more living to do -
we welcome this new year,
its 365 unwritten days,

these first 24 hours of 2022
............... no ordinary day.
