LIGHT ON WATER (FALMOUTH)

First published in June 2021

Early morning
sun playing 'Catch
as catch can'
with the waves,
two brash seagulls
joining in the game.

Afternoon, a more
grown-up approach,
breeze feathering
the surface, sun
burying its face
in white-topped waters.

Come evening, sea
sleepy, smooth as silk,
moon streaking black
waters with silver, barges,
liners, sailing boats
spilling fierce gold light

from every porthole.
