RAIN TODAY, RAIN YESTERDAY
Grey skies again,
sadness in person
as our world melts,
tears waterfalling
from all-encompassing
clouds and sunshine
a thing of the past.
We imagine blues -
skies, laughing eyes,
summer seas, pore
over photographs
(in black and white)
where we, as children,
wore skimpy shorts.
We paddled, fished
for tiddlers, found
starfish, collected
countless shells,
our parents soaking up
the sun - in those days
the sun always shone.
Or so we remember
in full Koda-colour,
reds, yellows, blues -
vivid as untouched
watercolours - looking
out on yet another day
of unremitting rain,
the earth in mourning?
