THE ENORMITY OF GREEN

First published in June 2021

You open the curtains,
green overwhelms you,
so huge, so over-the-top
so all-encompassing
it spills across
your morning eyes.

Green of tree, of grass,
of plants not yet in flower
overloaded with that one
colour - just the odd pink
peony and an early rose
trying to get in on the act.

But for now, in these
summer days, green it is,
exuberant, extravagant - jade,
viridian, emerald, nothing
else gets a look in. Green
in its enormity, its glory

is in complete charge.
