THE SKY AT NIGHT (EDITED VERSION)
First published in June 2016
A sky
frantic with stars
fills
its shadows
with the sadness
of owl-cries
of scurrying creatures
of dark dreams
where the man
at your side
calls out
What’s going on?
and there’s no way
you can answer
so you hold out
both hands
trying
to catch a falling star
a gift
a talisman
just for him
before it melts
leaving only
tu-wit-to-woo’s
leaking through
your cold fingers.
